I was able to take a few days off to visit long time herpetologist Richard Hoyer in Oregon. Richard has collected many decades of data on rubber boas and other species in his area. He is also very knowlegable regarding conservation of reptiles and amphibians and was very kind to show me around. It was a great trip where we were able to see more than a dozen rubber boas in a single day, all probably within 10 miles of each other. Unfortunately, those in charge of making regulations are often very clueless about reptiles such that the conservation officials in Oregon were listing the rubber boa as threatened when it was the most numerically abundant snake we saw during my trip there.
