The norhtern redbellied (Pseudemys rubriventris) turtle is a good sized and interesting species. After learning that it had a fairly small range in the state of Massachusetts, including an area I already planned to be in that day, I decided to make an effort to see it. These efforts included packing up an inflatable boat that I had envisioned I might need if there were not sufficient shoreline access to see them, binoculars, and a supply of food so that I would have all day to search if needed.
The boat ended up being a failed idea as it was very difficult to navigate and tended to blow whatever direction the wind sailed. As it turned out, no such thing was needed. I was able to observe a number of individuals from the shore. As a bonus, I was also able to find some carnivorous plants.
