It was around May many years ago when I decided to take a vacation to Peru. The primary purpose of the trip was to see the scenic sites around the Andes but I had planned to drop down into the southern Amazon for at least a couple of days. Although I only had a couple of days in the Amazon it still proved to be a worthwhile excursion. I plan to go back to Peru and see more places someday.
My first stop was Lima. Lima is a very nice city, definitely worth spending a couple of days there. I visited the catacombs, zoo, and the shoreline while I was there. I think took a little excursion further down the coast where I was able to see Flamingos, Penguins, and the Nazca Lines.

The next stop was the sacred valley. Although it is a tourist hotspot, it is for good reason and I recommend spending at least a couple of days there is you're in the area
And finally, I arrived in the amazon to do some mammal watching. When I return, I will allow myself much more time but I was able to see many birds including the odd Hoatzin, caiman, many monkey species, and a tapir. In conclusion, Peru is a really great country to visit, it has it all from birding or mammal watching in the Amazon to stunning Mountains views to ancient and mysterious ruins.
